Happy Thanksgiving! This day of remembering our heritage and the pilgrims celebrating and giving thanks for the harvest in early America kicks off the modern holiday shopping season. Many people hit the malls the day after Thanksgiving for Black Friday and Houston has plenty of malls with big anchor stores and smaller stores throughout.
But don't forget about supporting locally owned businesses on Small Business Saturday. You'll find a a great cluster of privately, locally owned shops and boutiques in Rice Village located by Kirby and south of the Southwest Freeway. Rice Village is a long-established walk-able retail area and was the predecessor and model to the open-air shopping concepts that have opened up in Houston recently. The open air environment makes walking around an enjoyable outdoor experience. One great thing about Houston is that the weather this time of year is so comfortable!
